Moon DogMoon Dogs are analogous to Sun Dogs (http://on.fb.me/VSfeo5) except of course they are formed by moonlight. Scientifically called paraselenae, they appear 22 degrees to the left and right of the moon, but show very little color due to the light not being bright enough to activate the human eyes cone cells. This lack of brightness makes them much more rare than sun dogs. This photo is loaded with extra goodies as well. Just below the moon are noctilucent clouds (http://on.fb.me/VSkW9q) and on the far left there is a faint wisp of aurora borealis (http://on.fb.me/VSlVX7)—AdamPhoto Credit: David Cartier (http://bit.ly/VSnOTL)References: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap130126.htmlhttp://www.atoptics.co.uk/halo/parmoon.htm -- source link
