zaatarwitholives:afunnyfeminist:iamabutchsolo:recreationalcannibalism:daringstars:horny-heiwajima:Yup. Disney sure was racist before they added a black woman.Because everyone knows that the only races there are in the world is black and not black.Silly Disney. While I love Princess and the frog, the idea that Disney hadn’t done any other racial differences is mindblowing. I mean really?Add to that the “Ooh, mixed race couple! How inclusive!” argument.Because DisneyHas neverDone thatThe last one isn’t even the same fucking species.*eyeroll*For real all of these films with perhaps the exception of Lilo and Stitch have racist elements to them. The Princess and the Frog has racist elements to it.And please do not suggest that Pocahontas and John Smith is a legitimate couple because one of the racist elements of that film is the twisted way they manipulated the relationship of those two.Just because you include racial diversity does not mean you are not being racist - (have any of you seenGlee??? It is the prime example). You argue that the inclusion of Tiana does not suddenly make Disney more inclusive, but the actual argument we should be considering is that the inclusion of Tiana does not negate Disney’s racist past and the continuation of racist elements in their films. Also people love Tiana and Naveen’s interracial aspect of their relationship because they both are of color. And don’t even include Ariel and what’s-his-face.Are we seriously including fictional characters from a mythical underwater city as people of color?Just going to add “Gypsy” isn’t a race. It’s a racial slur. And I’m pretty sure the Roma out there aren’t exactly thrilled with their romanticized and culturally inaccurate portrayal of their people. And “Middle-Eastern” isn’t a race either. Jasmine’s hodge-podge of Arabian, Persian, and Desi cultural stereotypes (poor brown girl needs to escape her oppressive father-dominated home!) probably didn’t thrill many Arabs, Persians/Iranians, or South Asians out there. Not to speak for them. Feel free to contradict. -- source link
