PRAISE RELEVANT DEITIES IT IS FINISHEDAfter two weeks of work, Jeanette’s traveling suit is complete. The pattern is from Sylvia MacNeil’s book The Paris Collection, and is based on a real antique, couturier-made doll ensemble.Needless to say, it’s not perfect execution. The ruffles, for instance, are too big, and I had to add a panel to the front of the jacket to make it close. But it was a great learning experience; I picked up a bunch of the period tricks for making the skirt back fuller and doing closures. I also learned how to pleat, which should be very useful, and that just because two poupees are the same height doesn’t mean their proportions are the same. That last one was a somewhat harder lesson to face.Mistakes notwithstanding, I am pretty satisfied with this outfit. It’s the most complicated project I’ve done so far and it taught me so much that I can’t help but be proud of it.And there’s an announcement to go along with these photos. I mentioned earlier that it’s a traveling suit, and it will get some use. In early July, I am moving to New York City. I’ll be subletting a friend’s apartment for a while until I find a place of my own. Obviously, the dolls won’t be joining me until I have room for them. But once I do, Jeanette and her sisters will embark on a journey to their new home. It’s all big and scary and exciting, but at least I’ll have my faithful (if mute and immobile) friends along for the ride. -- source link
