A place where Andreas spent three long months after the Black Prince of England stripped him of his title, his ancestral seat, and his betrothed. A dark little room where his grief went black with revenge. A chapel, suddenly, to a shadowed power that appeared to him and bid him wait. Bid him dedicate his vengeance. Andreas, in awe and fresh-born humility, knelt. Who can describe what happened afterwards? Escape, adoption, rescue, fear, joy and reunion. Weeks of travel, of plague-spawned horror, of a world seething with death. A sundial torn in half, seeping from its division. There are three things now that Andreas knows. First.He is the Boreal Knight, anointed by the same darkness, the Black Captain, that smote his blind eyes open in his captivity. Second.The Boreal Knight must contain a terrible Rupture, embodied as it is – hideously, ironically - by the woman he loves. He has seen her seethe with fungal vitality, he has felt her blood on his hands, he has held her in his arms while her screams became beetles and hissing locusts. Their foretold union was not one of partnership, but of enmity. Of destruction.He loves her still. And third. This has happened before. It cannot happen again.
