A river of iceThis gorgeous photo of Greenland’s Nordenskjöld Glacier was shared by NASA’s IceBridge program, which visits areas near both poles each year to take scientific measurements of the rapid changes underway. This one is delightful from a geologic perspective as well. The lines at the right hand side are medial moraines; layers of rock and debris-filled ice that mark places where 2 glacial streams came together. You can follow the medial moraines to see exactly where the ice stream is flowing and you can also observe that the direction of cracks and rifts in the ice also changes to follow the flow path along its route.-JBBImage credit: Michael Studingerhttps://twitter.com/NASA_ICE -- source link
