“My choice of materials reflects this paradoxical view that I have of American culture. Plastic is indispensable and it is completely unnecessary; it is vital to our modern lives and it is harmful to our environment; it is a true technological achievement and a sign of our failure.” —Isabelle Garbani, Arty Facts visiting artistPlastic bags, notoriously un-biodegradable throw-aways, become vibrant kaleidoscopes of color creeping along the surfaces of buildings, train tracks, and trees in the work of mixed-media artist Isabelle Garbani. On Sunday, April 17th, the next generation of thinkers and artists (children ages 4-7) are invited to participate in a special family program alongside Garbani, exploring the ways in which environment, place, and community can inspire artistic expression. This special Arty Facts session will take families into the Brooklyn Museum’s galleries to discover artworks through engaging conversation and interactive activities. Then, we’ll head to the studio for a workshop led by our special guest artist to create artwork inspired by the places and spaces that are the most meaningful to us. Check out bit.ly/bkmfamily to learn more about the Arty Facts series. No registration required, just show up! There is a materials fee of $10 (for up to four participants $5 for Museum Members at the Family level; and FREE to Members at the Friend level and above, as well as for Cool Culture families.Posted by Deena Bak -- source link
