Woman Writing a Letter (1680). Frans van Mieris (the Elder) (Dutch Golden Age, 1635–1681)
Woman Writing a Letter (1680). Frans van Mieris (the Elder) (Dutch Golden Age, 1635–1681). Oil on panel. Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.A young woman writes, bent over a table, a letter with a servant or messenger waiting, dog sleeping on a stool, and a lute. Typical example of the artist’s late style which is characterised by the mannered faces and the slightly unnatural fall of the draperies. It shows his virtuoso ability to imitate textures. -- source link
