Theotokos of Vladimir Church in Nizhneangarsk(Siberia).In 1643, the Cossack explorer Kurbat Ivanovdiscovered Lake Baikal and claimed it for the tsar. He crossed thelake in the north, and imposed yasak onthe Buryats living in Barguzin Valley. In 1646, an expeditionreached the far northern end of the lake and built the fortress ofVerkheangarsk, near where Nizhneangarsk is today. -- source link
