Mother Hubbard to DateJuly 12, 1904 The Meat Supply cupboard is empty except for a sign reading ‘Strike against reduction in wages’; The Meat Packer’s dog, The Public, looks sadly at the empty plate 'Higher Prices’. The caption reads “Old Packer Hubbard He went to the cupboard To get his Poor Dog a bone; But the poor millionaire Found the cupboard was bare- And so the Poor Dog was soaked still harder when he insisted on having real meat.” There were plans being made for a meat packer’s strike to protest low wages and poor conditions. The owners of the packing plants then used this strike to justify higher prices. From Hennepin County LibraryOriginal available at: https://digitalcollections.hclib.org/digital/collection/Bart/id/4907 -- source link
