boromirs:Middle-earth History meme: 2/3 elvesFounder of the Gwaith-i-Mírdain, the greatest brotherhood of jewel smiths, Celebrimbor was deceived by Sauron, who bore a fair guise and called himself Annatar, meaning “Lord of Gifts". Sauron claimed he had been sent by the Valar to instruct the elves in ring and jewelry making for the betterment of Middle-earth. Celebrimbor and the smiths of Eregion created sixteen rings under Sauron’s teaching, sending nine to Men and seven unto the Dwarves. However, in secret Celebrimbor forged three great rings free of Sauron’s corruption and gave them unto his kindred. However, as the elves discovered Sauron’s plans and the Dark Lord warred against the elves, laying waste to Eregion and capturing Celebrimbor. Tortured, Celebrimbor revealed where the rings of Men and rings of Dwarves were held, but would not reveal the locations or bearers of the three given to the elves. He died in his torment and his body was then used as a banner by Sauron. -- source link
