CPL Throwback Thursday - Trailer Service From The Legler Regional Library, Circa. 1940The Legler Library at 115 South Pulaski Road began an experimental trailer service to area industries on April 19, 1940. The first three industrial plants to receive the service were Binks Manufacturing Company, Brach’s Candy Company and Dowst’s Tootsie Toy Manufacturing Company. Many area factories held defense contracts and the men and women were working 10 to 12 hours a day. Since they did not have the time to visit their local libraries, the Library’s “service to your door” was very popular among the West Side workers. In 1943, circulation to Brach’s employees alone was 12,338 volumes.Click here to learn more about the Legler Library trailer service! -- source link
