Remington Elliot Pepperbox PistolProduced between 1861 and 1862, the .22 rimfire Remington Elliot was a “pepperbox” pocket pistol. It has six barrels, each individually loaded, which turn and fire with each squeeze of a trigger pull, unlike a revolver which has a revolving cylinder. It also has an internal hammer to reduce snagging, something rare during a time when most pistols had an exposed hammer. Heavy and inaccurate, pepperboxes became less popular as more models of revolvers became available. Only 1,000 Remington Elliots were produced, of which only 140 are known to survive today. -- source link
