slothisticated: I recently came across this gem. It’s more for paleontologists, but I felt it could be relevant to all fields of scientific study. Personally, as an anthropologist, I’m cringing and deeply sadden to see this being taught to children as truth. I do believe that religion and science can coexist to a degree. The Dalai Lama has publicly expressed, “If scientific analysis were conclusively to demonstrate certain claims in Buddhism to be false, then we must accept the findings of science and abandon those claims.” Religion teaches ethics, about the morality of a person; the bible definitely should not be taken as scientific truth because of it’s contradictory nature. Science is there to determine what’s true and people need to understand the separation of the two. To have religious schools go against the facts of evolution in such a blatant manner is intellectual death for the next generation. I find it extremely frustrating that teaching evolution in schools is still actually a subject of debate in some countries. “were you there” -- source link
