lightsoverastoria: “I wanted to create costumes that looked contemporarily relevant, and when you look at typical Shakespeare, Tudor-esque costumes, they don’t. They feel very heavy with all the jacquards and brocades. Instead, I was inspired by what’s been in the zeitgeist, to reinvent historical periods and reference them in contemporary clothing. [The show is] very provocative, and having that freedom to talk about gender and current themes resonates even more with the zeitgeist in our crazy world. The most important thing was to keep it as relevant, and entertaining, and upbeat as we think of the Go-Go’s music, and for the costumes themselves to have energy. I did, however, use a lot of Greek and Roman imagery when hand-painting on the costumes. And, to create an overall print for the dancers, we used the sheet music of the Go-Go’s song, “We Got the Beat.””My Favorite Designs → Head Over Heels (Broadway 2018)Costume Design by Arianne Phillips -- source link
