my18thcenturysource:As part of Black History Month, I think important to share the work of Cheyney McKnight, a historical interpreter ready to show and talk about some “uncomfortable” (for many people) aspects of history: black history, slavery, segregation, erasure… She’s not gonna be silent (and we love her for that).Through her work she displays the complexities of the black experience through history: from slavery in American Colonial times, to the suffragette movement, and of course the 19th century and the Civil War.Cheyney also constantly protests in costume, making it easier for people to link the past and present of black Americans and other minorities (the last photo I posted was her pretest to the children in cages), shouting out, even if she’s silent during the protest, that we cannot solve problems if we do not address our past. You can follow her as Not Your Momma’s History on instagram, youtube, and on her website. Her tumblr @notyourmommashistory is sadly not active anymore. -- source link
