Dia de los Muertos on Tumblr Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a festival originating in Mexico and celebrated throughout the world, where people gather to pray for, remember, and celebrate the lives of friends and family that have died. The Tumblr conversation around Dia de los Muertos featured a lot of original art inspired by the recently released film The Book of Life; the piece above is the most popular post in the conversation overall, but it isn’t the only one around the movie or of the character of La Muerta herself. Tumblr’s love of combining holidays, fandom, and pop culture also lead to another very different take on a classic movie: Outside of film colliding with the holiday, the Instagram Tumblr covered one artist’s work with sugar skulls, and others shared photography or messages in memory of those lost who have no one to remember them. The Smithsonian Latino Virtual Museum also organized an entire Tumblr around their virtual festival, including a post about author Sandra Cisneros’ altar to her mother. -- source link
