organicmatter:Upon learning about them in a well-used field guide, textbook, art piece, or documentary, pseudoscorpions immediately fascinate the minds of all who discover them. These intriguing arachnids bear functional pedipalps reminiscent of those found on their relatives the true scorpions, yet they lack a stinging telson. Interestingly, some pseudoscorpions wield venom in their pincers (though they are far too tiny to use it on humans), which is used to subdue their prey. A jack-of-all-trades, pseudoscorpions can even produce silk, which they use to construct small retreats for molting, protection, and birthing. Captivating and surprisingly energetic, this species has been particularly easy to culture when provided with numerous hiding places and plentiful prey items. Though pseudoscorpions can be difficult to locate in the wild, our collecting group was fortunate to find a congregation of them under a boulder in Madera Canyon, Arizona. Considering most of the specimens collected were gravid females, it is conceivable they had come together to give birth, which is a very unique behavior among arachnids!source -- source link
