faggghaggg:skeleton-richard:shredsandpatches:skeleton-richard:little-water-lily:this is a whole aesthetic ^second these thoughtsAlso these!Exactly!! He likes being androgynous and will present however he wants, he’s the king and has no issues with his own identity, which is a really powerful thing as you said. Of course he has an identity crisis, but still keeps his style and bearing and at least part of himself.(Sorry for rambling, OP!)The costumes, the hair, the gold nails are all as feminizing as can be, so I think the sense of power is all down to DT. This is exactly why I can never buy him as a total bottom… a switch, sure, but a top first and foremost. There’s just too much man to this man, eternal twink though he may be. Richard historically was/has been called feminine/effeminate, he didn’t fit precisely into the proscribed proper manly gender role of the 14th century so I suppose you could consider him as actually gender non-conforming, though I wouldn’t argue he was historically nonbinary (though I think I have an AU in here somewhere where he is). I don’t see it as feminizing at all. As I said above, he has an androgynous style and Tennant definitely plays Richard with that sense of power– he is king, after all. I can direct you to some excellent fanfiction that challenges that idea of Richard as mostly a top ;) He needs someone to take care of him and to have a chance to not have to be in charge. Also, sexual roles in are not dictated by gender or vice versa, just saying. -- source link
