“I’m ready to get people as excited as I am!” says Harry, curator for this month’s Teen Movie Night, a new program launching this Friday, November 20, at 5 pm. Harry Vartorella, who has been a Museum Apprentice for the past two years, is one of the teens who originally came up with the idea for a movie night, which is planned and run entirely by and for teens. Which film did he choose to start off the series? Fresh Dressed, a documentary directed by native New Yorker Sacha Jenkins. The film focuses on hip-hop fashion and the freedom to be yourself and that being fresh can offer. It draws from archival footage and features interview with rappers, design, and others from the industry: Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Sean “Puffy” Combs, Nas, Pusha T, Swizz Beatz, Damon Dash, André Leon Talley, A$AP Rocky, Marc Ecko, Big Daddy Kane, and Kid ‘N Play, to name a few.“The music’s great, the energy’s great…What a movie!” Harry says, adding that Fresh Dressed has a “David and Goliath story” between brands. “This’ll be such a great communal experience. It has so many things that bring people together, like fashion, and dance, and music. And I think that’s why I chose it, because it incorporates so many parts of culture that bring people together. Which is why we wanted to do this Movie Night in the first place.”Join us as we celebrate being fly, being unique, and being special. Teen Movie Night is free and is open to teens 13 and over. As your host Harry says, with characteristic excitement: “Ya gotta come!”Posted by Sam Kelly -- source link
