toastedbuckwheat:Bringing back this drawing from several years ago that I hoped would never become relevant to the situation in the country I’m from. Poland had already had one of the strictest abortion laws in Europe. This Thursday, the choice of Polish women and afab people got nearly completely taken away. 98% legal pregnancy terminations in Poland are due to foetal malformation. Even this has now been banned, and abortion is only permitted in case of rape, incest or if the mother’s life is at threat. (And those behind the new restrictions are already working on removing rape from this list.)Strict abortion laws do not protect lives. They ruin them. They cause tragedies and trauma. The coat hanger often appears on posters or in the hands of the protesters as a symbol of opposition to abortion restrictions. Right now, there are thousands of people in the streets of Polish cities, facing arrests and pepper spray. I can’t be with them there. I was lucky to be able to leave the country. Those who remained now live in what’s now been dubbed Women’s Hell. -- source link
