FFC Feature member profile for February is Jamie Lea Guthrie, owner of The Beauty Expert.Bio / A bit about your professional backgroundI am originally from Moncton. I graduated from the Medes College Aesthetics program in 2005, and did my job placement at Jon Raymond Repechage Spa. I continued to work there until 2007. I worked for a short time at Medes Spa doing nails, and at Medes College teaching the practical artificial nail program. I decided it was time for a change and a new start, so I moved to Fredericton and started working at Maritime Beauty Supply. There, I went on to be Assistant Team Leader as well as Esthetic Educator for New Brunswick territory. I’ve been blessed to have had such valuable experience in so many facets of the beauty industry. In 2012, I rented a room at Salon Synergy, it was time to try something new. I wanted to be self employed. In 2014, I opened The Beauty Expert.Tell us about your business and how you came up with the idea.My business is The Beauty Expert, an aesthetic studio, located at 927 Prospect Street. I work by myself and I really enjoy the independence I’ve found there. The idea was to provide a comfortable, modern space where my clients and I can relax.Where do you look for inspiration/ how do you get yourself inspired?I look for inspiration everywhere, particularly online. Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, there’s really so much out there there these days. It’s so different from when I started out. When I started doing nails you could have clear or French. That was it! If you were really adventurous you could add a gem. Now anything goes! Inspiration is everywhere.Who are some of your favourite artists in your field?I love Jennifer Mather with CND. I’ve taken all of her classes and I think she is one of the best. I’ve picked up so many tricks from her, there’s always something to learn. I have lots of friends in the industry so I think we all inspire each other with our posts of new nail art, lashes, products we love. I think it’s fabulous to bounce ideas back and forth and troubleshoot.Do you use Social Media for your business? How has impacted your business?I’m definitely using social media for my business. In today’s society you have to if you want to be relevant. It gives you great exposure at no cost. I’ve never done any advertising. Word of mouth and social media have been enough. If you’re good at what you do and people like your work, they will find you.As a member of FFC, what do you hope to see the council achieve?I’m a new member of FFC, I only joined a few months ago, but I’m excited to get involved and meet more like minded individuals. I’d love to see Fredericton become a more fashion forward place to live. What’s next for you? What’s next? Right now, I’m in a really good place. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, so for the time being I’m just going to enjoy the stage that I’m in. But I’m excited to see what the future will bring. -- source link
