A kitsune (狐) is a creature of Japanese folktales, that serve as faithful guardians and messengers of the goddess Inari Okami (稲荷大神). She is the goddess of foxes, fertility, rice, tea, and sake, as well as agriculture and industry. Whenever you see red torii gates, they are probably a shrine to Inari. You can tell for sure if there are fox statues guarding the actual shrine past them. These are her guardians, often depicted with a key (like this one), a jewel, a baby fox kit, or a scroll in their mouths. The most famous of Inari shrines is in Kyoto at Fushimi-Inari Taisha (京都市 伏見稲荷大社) . . . . #kitsune #fox #okami #inari #japan #japanese #shinto #shintoshrine #fushimiinari #fushimiinaritaisha #illustration #artistsoninstagram #redbubble https://www.instagram.com/p/B1FXxyAn4Ef/?igshid=183m1pcoos3p5 -- source link
