(Saturday, 24. May, part 1) Our last day in Hong Kong presented itself with beautiful weather, so we went out and did stuff! First order of business was the Lantau Ropeway in Tung Chung, near the airport. It took us up into the mountains where, after fighting our way through an actual town made of souvenir shops, we enjoyed Buddhist temples and a nice short hike through the forest. Again, it felt quite “tropical” and I just loved the animal- and plant life. Not only were there fluffy caterpillars (see above) but also an abundance of butterflies, pollinating the beautiful flowers. some were small and white, some small and black with white markings, and then there were black ones as big as my hand, swooping low over the path. it took me some time to actually confirm that those were, in fact, butterflies and not birds or bats. Sadly they weren’t really easy to photograph. Anyway, this trip made up about half of our day and though it is VERY tourist-y, I can highly recommend it. -- source link
