After that heavenly breakfast, we went to the Science Museum. I really like exhibits like this, where they demonstrate lots of scientific facts with the help of hands-on experiences. Above you can see me being cut off by an optical illusion involving mirrors. The museum also hosts the world’s biggest energy machine, a huge construct on which balls roll over tracks, triggering chain reactions that move other balls, and so on. Even though the museum is smaller than similar ones, like the Exploratorium in San Francisco and the Phänomenta in Flensburg, Germany, we spent a good 3 hours there. Afterwards we headed for Downtown Hong Kong’s financial district, getting lost in the huge subway station on the way. It’s quite similar to Germany and also Japan, that train stations often double as malls and tourist attractions. This particular one also pretty much spans below most of Kowloon, making it a smart way to travel even without ever entering a train. We ended up taking a Ferry across the bay, though. We strolled around a bit, but unfortunately I felt rather sick due to the heat and having run around for so long, so we planned to take the tram, called Ding Ding, to another ferry terminal which then would lead us back to the hotel. The tram was fun and ridiculously cheap (about 3HKD which is 0.3 Euros…) but the very busy streets made it painfully slow. After about an hour and only half the distance to the terminal, we got off and decided to take the bus instead, which would go through a tunnel pretty much directly to our hotel. That’s when the rain started. Hong Kong is known for its rain and thunderstorms, especially during this time of the year, so we weren’t really surprised. Still, it was the heaviest rainfall I ever experienced and it just wouldn’t stop. The few meters of roof-less walking between the bus stop and the hotel were enough to completely soak us through. I felt really bad for the guy who had to mop the hotel lobby’s marble floors after each incoming guest… ^^ A shower a nap later, the rain had stopped and we went out for the steak I still craved. Went to an Outback steakhouse, a chain that’s also common in the US, I believe. And it was so good! Hope we can go there again <3 Another thing worth mentioning is that around 3am, we woke up from the huge thunderstorm going on. It rained a lot again and lightning illuminated the area for several hours. It’s still raining now (wednesday morning) so we’ll do some indoors stuff today, shopping and such. See you! -- source link
