1723-1735Speak Memory, 2005. Colour Photograph. . Set of 5 colour PAlrighty roo! HAPPY SPRING !!!I almost forgot to wish people this today because ….Well I’m going to check my Climate ‘ledge right now : because California. I apologise. So Sincerely: Happy Spring. May the Snow melt and your S.A.D sads go.This is my Contemporary Art Take on this whole thing. It does take a tour into Grim-ville so sorry if that makes you blue when you just want to be thinking: Follow the butterflies. Just reblog this and ignore the rest as TL; DNR *wiiinks*And to get this out of the way:The First two images are both Hong Lei.1)After Song Dynasty Painting Circle Series. Set of five colour Photographs.2000.2)Speak Memory, Colour Photograph. 2005.The Other Two:Huizong: Five colour Parakeet on Blooming Apricot Tree. Ink on Silk. Ca 1110-1119.Bowl with Sparrows among Bamboo. Polychrome Enamels. Yongzheng Reign Mark. Ca. 1725-1735.Basically in 3 Three words:OH THE VANITAS!In more than three words:Let’s look at the last two because they are happy and maybe this will give your required serotonin boost to get through all of this. You see the tree about to burst with life and the happy little Parakeet in Huizong’s work. In the ceramic work with the sparrows enjoying the bamboo to their little hearts content.Okay I probably could have chose a better cup because Bamboo is more summer-y than anything else but…EVERYTHING DEPICTED IN THOSE THINGS ARE LONG SINCE DEAD EVEN IF THEY WERE IMAGINARY. THEY ARE DEAD.Boom.Yeah I never get that why Spring is always pictures and painting of flowers and birds. Both of those things have such fickle life spans honestly…AKA TEH VANITASThis is highlighted in Lei’s work by suspending the butterflies by strings, as a kind of series of morbid marionettes, and the obviously dead birds in the fourth and fifth circles. Though it is also pretty interesting and pretty easy to see where Lei got his initial concept particularly in reference to Huizong over that of the ceramic piece.Silver Linings Playbook on this:I’m viewing the butterflies suspended in time. They've’ve managed to escape time because, given the right curatorial conditions, they are artistic entomological specimens stuck in perpetual spring. And as for the Parakeet: It is pretty much the most famous Parakeet in Chinese Art History. So I’m claiming extreme moral victory for the Keetster.HAPPY SPRING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -- source link
