kisstherain1:MYTHOLOGY SERIES: CLYTEMNESTRA (Greek Myth): CLYTEMNESTRA was the daughter of Leda and Tyndareos (King of Sparta), and was the estranged wife of Agamemnon. Before the Greek troops left for Troy, Agamemnon sacrificed her favourite daughter Iphigenia so they could have a fair wind to Troy. Although Achilles vowed to protect her, Agamemnon got his way and Iphigenia was offered to Artemis.Like her sister Helen, Clytemnestra felt no loyalty towards her husband and had an affair with his cousin, Aegisthus. They ruled Mycenae together. When Agamemnon returned home from the Trojan war he was butchered by Aegisthus, while Clytemnestra kept him trapped in a net. For this reason, Clytemnestra was killed by her own son Orestes. INTERESTING FACT: Clytemnestra’s personality differs between versions of the myth. Sometimes she is portrayed as weak and submissive (Homer’s Clytemnestra), or ruthless and manipulative (Aeschylus’ Clytemnestra). This affects her role in the affair with Agamemnon. -- source link
