retrogamingblog2: The Hyrule Fantasy: The Legend of Zelda was released for the Famicom disk system 35 years ago today. The game was created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka along with Nintendo R&D 4, the same team responsible for making Super Mario Bros. The iconic soundtrack was composed by Koji Kondo, who would go on to create the music for nearly every Mario and Zelda game that Nintendo has ever released. In 1987 Zelda was released as an NES cartridge in the west. Because of the length of the adventure, the Legend of Zelda became the first video game to contain a battery in the cartridge for saving the game. Over its 35 year history, the franchise has seen 19 main series games, not including spin-offs and remakes. As of 2020 the franchise has sold over 126 million copies. -- source link
