queeranarchism: queeranarchism:theshampyon:queeranarchism: Original drawing by J.A. Mitchell, published in The Appeal to Reason in 1906. New version shared by AK Press. Just wanna point folks back to this thread: https://theshampyon.tumblr.com/post/662355369466773504/this-is-a-take-i-understand-and-sympathise-with-i On a related note, a transcript of AOC’s response to the backlash after the cut. ) Keep reading LMAO, SHE IS LITERALLY SELLING MERCH WITH HER WEAKASS REFORMIST TAKE. The fact she’s busy there selling merch and defending her goddamn dress instead of talking about the police brutality taking place outside the event is very very telling. Though not surprising for someone who things ‘tax the rich’ is edgy instead of a bland slightly-left-of-center take. So, no, nobody here cares about her fucking opinions, or whether the paid for the ticket. Get the fuck out of my notes with that bullshit. Because I am petty, I am going to point out that the response she did give was bullshit. Basically, she whipped out the following graph showing an increase in interest in the term ‘tax the rich’, visible as a dotted spike at the end of this graph:She thinks this is proof that she ‘raised awareness’ of something. What she completely fails to realize is that this only shows how many people were talking about her dress. I checked the search trends for related phrases like ‘tax the wealthy’, ‘tax on wealth’, ‘tax millionaires’, ‘higher tax rates’, ‘tax havens’, ‘tax evasion’, ‘anti-capitalism’, ‘capitalism’, etc… none of those topics saw a notable spike. In other words: there is no measurable increase in the amount of actual interest in the topic she claims to be raising awareness for. Wanna know what did spike?Graph shows a big recent spike for ‘Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ and for ‘AOC’. Both of those spikes dwarf the ‘Tax the Rich’ spike she is so proud of by a very lange margin. The only thing she raised ‘awareness’ of was herself. People are talking about the dress and the person who wore it. That’s all. -- source link
