Happy Valentine’s Day! We’re enjoying all the Valentine’s Day posts from museums around the world. This hand-carved jewelry box was presented as a gift to Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn by their children in 1960, on the occasion of the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. It was carved by Benjamin Tweedale, a craftsman who worked at both Glencairn and Bryn Athyn Cathedral. Pairs of doves are a major decorative theme in Glencairn—they are carved in wood and stone, and depicted in glass mosaic.The inscription along the top reads: “Raymond & Mildred Dec - 29 - 1910 - 1960.” The inscription below in Hebrew is a verse from the Bible (Psalm 118:23): “This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.“ -- source link
