The Falschirmjager MauserDuring World War II the Falschirmjager were Hitler’s elite corps of paratroopers.  Amoung the best of the German Wehrmacht (army) the Falschirmjager were often issued with special equipment not available to the regular army.  Amoung these were a special model of 98K Mauser rifle.  The 98 Mauser was the bread and butter firearm of the Germany military, but the paratroopers were often issued special models that were designed to be easier to carry when jumping out of an airplane.  The first model (pic 1) is a fold up model.  On the stock is a special hinge the when unlocked, folds the stock forward, making in more compact for a paratroopers gear.  The second model (pic 2) is more of a take down rifle.  The barrel can be removed from the rifle, again making it more compact for travel when a paratrooper made his drop.  Once hiting ground, the rifle could be quickly reassembled for combat. -- source link
