yeah-i-study-korean: 고양이는 정말 귀여워 (aka: Cats are Cute)The other day I ran into this cute app called Cats are Cute, and while I’m not really a fan of tapping games, I was very happy to find out that this game supports Korean. I still get pretty overwhelmed when I see a page full of Korean text, so I thought this would be a low pressure way to get myself more used to that. While I’m still not quite at a level where I’m able to easily read everything, I figured it would be a good opportunity to challenge myself and pick up some new vocab. So, every once in a while, I’ll try to share some phrases and vocab from the game! Since the game is centered around cats, there will probably be a slant towards cat-related vocab, so just be prepared for that.Today I’m keeping things simple with the title screen, the home screen, and a simple message for discovering a new animal! So without further ado, some vocab!Title Screen고양이는 정말 귀여워고양이 = cat정말 = really귀엽다 = to be cuteRough translation: Cats are really cute!Note: In English we tend to use plural nouns to talk about things in general (like, “I love books.” or “Don’t you think strawberries are delicious?”), but in Korean you use singular nouns to talk about general things. Therefore “고양이” still means “cats” here!Home Screen상점 = store마을 = town (village)애옹 = meow (like the sound cats make, not as a verb; I think it can be spelled other ways, too, but this is how it appears in the game!)Friend Message짜잔! 너구리를 발견했어요!짜잔! = Ta-da!너구리 = Raccoon발견하다 = to find, to discoverRough translation: Ta-da! You found Raccoon! (Technically, “a raccoon” but the character’s name is also just “Raccoon.”)친구= friend확인 = check, verify, confirmAnd that’s it!
