BONUS SAMPLE CHAPTER!Double Blind (12/28) Eva reaches, palm out, and presses at the thick air with a tentative hand. A rainbow explodes outward, a prism of light pouring from where she’d pushed at the magic. Eva lets out a startled sound, and it vibrates the air, green-gold light shimmering where it had been. Artemis holds her hands out and turns in a circle, colors bursting around her as she turns, and Eva follows suit. The magic washes over her with no resistance, and Eva turns and turns and turns, colors breaking free as though they’d been caged until now, as though this is their mighty escape from the air that holds them captive. Magic is magic, and people are kind or cruel, but there is something about this magic that feels otherworldly, that feels like the legends and fairytales of old in which magic had been something precious and ancient, something sacred. Eva is sobbing now as colors rain down around her, can feel the tears pouring down her cheeks, and she can’t explain why, what kindness in magic could possibly mean to her.
