Dreams for Sale Saturday, July 13, 3:45 PM (137 min.) When Satoko and Kanya’s noodle bar burns to the ground, the two are left to scrape up what’s left of their life and figure out a way to keep forge ahead with their livelihood gone. A way forward is revealed to them following a regrettable one-night stand, however, when they realize that Kanya’s preternatural abilities of seduction could allow them to prosper from a grift swindling lonely women of their money. But as the money begins coming in, the couple must face the consequences such a scheme will bear upon their own relationship. Dreams for Sale is director Miwa Nishikawa’s first film in three years, and this pitch-black comedy demonstrates her enduring ability to articulate all the tension, distrust, and anxieties which underpin our relationships.
