nikkoliferous:magicmastered:philosopherking1887:As I had Loki remark in my Loki in the Void/Loki’s POV in Avengers fic: “What, and he didn’t—claiming to be the Earth’s benevolent protector?”“You people are so petty… and tiny” also comes to mind…^^^Thor, please look at yourself before you accuse Loki of things. “I thought humans were more evolved than this” kind of shows this attitude as well. Thankfully, Fury calls him out beautifully that time. (“Did we come to YOUR planet and blow stuff up?”)THIS THIS THIS THISEvery time someone claims that Loki looks down on humans and Thor doesn’t, I feel the need to point out that Thor absolutely does. His condescension just comes in a different form than Loki’s, that’s all. Thor sees the humans as helpless pets. Bear in mind, no one asked him to come be their benevolent protector. He just assigns himself that role because obviously they can’t take care of themselves. I don’t see how that’s less insulting than anything Loki says here. And of course, there’s the matter of the mind stone. Outside of its control, I’d argue Loki comes across as less racist towards humans than the rest of his family. Does he still look down on them? To at least some degree, probably. Considering who he was raised by, it’s hard to imagine anything else. But note his behaviour around Jane, which I’d argue is when he’s at his most honest regarding his attitude towards humans. He’s perfectly cordial; you could almost read his “she’s holding up alright” line as complimentary; and whereas Odin tells Thor to give Jane up because being human means she’s beneath him, Loki counsels Thor to give her up because her shortened lifespan will cause Thor pain. And of course, he risks his life twice to save her. I think most of that comes down to his love for Thor, but it’s also a very instinctual reaction. He doesn’t have time to think it through; he just does it. Faced with the split-second decision, his first instinct is to protect a mortal at the cost of his own safety. -- source link
