a-side-of-rice: A SIDE OF RICE is now accepting submissions for Issue #01 – The Sci-fi Issue! A SIDE OF RICE is a zine created by Asian Americans for Asian Americans. We want to celebrate and investigate the people we are, and the things we do. Our goal is to build a creative space where people feel encouraged to grow and innovate, both individually and within their communities. We’re looking for contributions that critically explore what it is to live out radical Asian American politics. We encourage you to submit art (photography, painting, drawing, etc.) DIY guides prose poetry travel guides recipes playlists articles op-eds that reflect on our theme: science fiction. Because the origins of sci-fi are so steeped in the trauma of the colonial encounter, we want to know what it means to write science fiction in a postcolonial era. Does this mean creating media that grapples with or subverts the colonial implication of exploratory science fiction? Or does it mean staying away from the topic of the Encounter altogether? How do we, as Asian Americans, often perceived as representations of the unknown and alien, to interpret our experiences of exploration, discovery, and alienation? We accept submissions that are not written in English and will not require you to translate for publication. For more details, look at our submission guidelines or contact us directly. Submissions should be sent through the official form. The $2 submission fee all goes toward printing and distribution costs, as well as paying contributors for submissions we select. -- source link
