I respect your opinion but for one, Chick-fil-A receives most of the income each restaurant makes, so people are still handing their money over to an anti-gay supporting powerhouse. Whether or not they are important to an economy or community, if the top execs hold an opinion against gay marriage, they can use the rest of that income for whatever they want. (For example, donating to groups who had helped fund the “Kill the Gays” bill in Uganda.) The employees and local owners may not hold the same opinion but in the larger scheme of things, they are just a part of what holds up the Chick-fil-A brand, one of which doesn’t reject churches from using their name when hosting events that blatantly undermines the rights of queers. You’re right in saying a boycott would hurt those working at Chick-fil-A but they are also hurting any future progress by working for a brand with CEOs who have an outspoken opinion and the money to back it up. Now, I’m sure you’re trying to see things from all sides but you just threw out an assumption that Dan Cathy is good man with good reason. No one actually knows his thoughts unless you know him personally, then kudos to you. You stated that “he has a reason as to why he believes what he does" but does that give him an excuse? Why are we letting people off the hook because their religions and beliefs tell them so. I don’t care what the bible says, we are following the constitution. And don’t tell me that Chick-fil-A is a neutral company because Dan Cathy purposely influenced this company under his evangelical Christian convictions. It is a company that is swayed by their chairman’s own beliefs. I will passive-aggressively shame on my blog when I want. I don’t mind people throwing their opinions back at me because that’s what the ask box is for. But I still stand by my own opinion. If you have a problem with that, it’s best you steer clear of this blog. -- source link
