I have to do this here because I refuse to engage in political debates on Facebook. Today, to my great disappointment (but not surprise), my dad posted this on his wall with the caption ‘how bout dat?’ along with several videos about how racism is imaginary and another gem about how chic-fil-a was super charitable during the aftermath of the Orlando Shootings ‘but you don’t see that on the evening news.’ SIGH. But I digress. What I’m really here to say is, how the FUCK is the chicken scratch shit in the photo above relevant AT ALL?! What you’re telling me is…over 100 years ago the Republican Party had better core values than they do now?? No shit. And that…no republicans voted for Obamacare. Okay. Those two things aren’t fucking related at all. This infographic should be called “Republicans Haven’t Been Cool Since 1870.″ And why are the boxes grouped like that? Why is there a check box only in the one about the 13th amendment? What the fuck is this nonsense? While we’re at it, why do old white people spend so much time and energy denying that racism exists?? It makes me pretty fucking uncomfortable too what my ancestors did but that’s a small price to pay compared to, you know, the whole systematic racism thing. Another moot-ass waste of time. You think the people who actually experience racism in their every day life give a shit whether or not you think it exists? You really think they’re going to watch your video and say, ‘oh, okay. I guess I was wrong about racism all those times unarmed black children were shot by cops in the back with their hands in the air. That totally happened because of ‘absent fathers in the black community.’’ The willful ignorance is astonishing. Also, the news isn’t reporting on chic-fil-a because chic-fil-a is an establishment with a history of homophobic principals and, while I’m glad that they are being supportive during this tragedy, they don’t get a fucking cookie for being decent humans.
