fashionaryhand: Fashionary X V&A X Lesley Barnes Fashionary collaborate with V&A museum in London and illustrator, Lesley Barnes to create a fashion sketchbook to celebrate the exhibition titled “The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945-2014” during 5 April - 27 July 2014. UK Artist Lesley Barnes created a ‘concertina’ illustration inspired by Italian fashion from the 1850s, the end of the Second World War, to the present day. This was to compliment their exhibition ‘The Glamour of Italian Fashion’ with the story is explored through the key individuals and organisations that have contributed to Italy’s reputation for quality and style. The illustrations have been used on a whole host of gift products and the Fashionary sketchbook was a key piece in the collection and we decided to use the bold optical 1960s designs for its cover. This illustration was initially inspired not only by the optical mono prints of the 1960s but also by the uniforms that Pucci created for Baniff airlines (including the famous ‘bubble’ helmet). For the Fashionary cover we decided to simplify this design so it was really graphic and eye catching and that’s how we came to the final cover - two colours and optical patterns! This special fashionary in womens edition is created exclusively for V&A and it can be purchased now at the V&A shops in London.
