aeide-thea:not to be extremely rabid-new-yorker-at-large about this, but: this is one of the mosaics that comprise the for want of a nail installation in the 81st street subway station, which was a 1999 collaboration between the mta arts & design program, then known as arts for transit, and the nearby museum of natural history:Using glass and ceramic tile, granite and bronze, the ten key disciplines at the museum are presented graphically in very cool ways: fish fossils in the floor, butterflies, sharks, caterpillars, lizards, even dinosaur fossils oozing out of the walls, looking like solidified oil…. Extinct animals are portrayed in grey, living ones in color. -- source link
