Klaine Advent: Day Twenty-Two: Vow[Paul Anderson’s expressed views are not shared by the author]Paul Anderson refreshes his email. Needed in Dallas to depose a witness, he didn’t think twice about missing Blaine’s friends’ wedding in Indiana. He’s thinking twice about it now.Pam called as he reached his hotel to give him the news. “Married,” he repeated, quickly followed by, “Can it be annulled?” His family law skills are rusty, but he wonders if being young and impetuous are grounds for annulment. Pam laughed at him. “Yeah, no, that’s not happening. I’m gonna call Cooper next! I’ll send video.”Once it comes through he presses play. After watching it he’s left with three fundamental truths:I. It’s unusual to watch two men marry.Or two women. Or both, as it is in this case. That’s what they get for sending Blaine to that ridiculous gay public high school, or whatever it was. You wouldn’t see Dalton men behaving like this.II. But if you’re going to marry a man… Kurt Hummel? Really? His Christianity compels him to have compassion and understanding for everyone, but he does not understand the appeal of Kurt Hummel. Not that he understands the appeal of any man, because that isn’t his way, but he can’t fathom being a man attracted to men and picking one so effeminate. What’s the point? Why not be with a woman? Doogie Howser from How I Met Your Mother makes much more sense.III. He’s sorry he’s not there. As insane as this all is, his heart forms a fissure to have missed it. He watches Blaine commit to Kurt and say “I do,” legally linking his life to Kurt’s forever, no matter what happens. Watching it solidifies for Paul the serious nature of their relationship. He’s crossed over. A man and a husband at 19 years old. Not for the first or last time, Paul is fiercely proud of Blaine.IIIa. He’s actually glad to be watching this recorded and in private, not live and in public, because tears are uncontrollably pooling in his eyes.He calls Pam and leaves a message: “I know he’ll be busy, but when you get a second, please put him on the phone. I want to congratulate my son. And. New son-in-law.”He watches it again. -- source link
