Klaine Advent: Day Nineteen: ShiftShift ChangeKurt wakes him up at 7:25, laying Libby in bed next to him, with the usual handoff of information: “She’s fed, freshly diapered, and the rash is looking better.”Blaine reaches out a hand, half asleep. He rolled in at midnight after the show and they’d stayed up talking for way too long. “Come back to bed. Family snuggle party.”Kurt groans and says, “That’s a great offer, especially when you went to bed shirtless.” Blaine fumbles for his glasses on the nightstand. When he’s seeing clear, he looks at his husband, who genuinely looks torn and sad, which is not befitting of his brocade suit jacket and cheerful pink dress shirt. Blaine takes their baby into his arms. She’s gurgling, all smiles, and he kisses her plump cheeks. “But you know I’ve got to go to work now, if I’m going to get home in time.” Blaine knows. He hates it and he knows. He tugs Kurt in by his collar for a kiss, then Kurt drops one on Libby’s head.“Bye, my loves, have a good day!” he calls, running out the door.Coffee first.+Blaine starts sweating at 6:20. He needs to be at the theatre by 7:00, the latest, and Kurt is still not home. His husband comes tumbling in 11 minutes later.“I know, I’m the worst, Isabelle reminded me to go, but I was trying to lock up content for next week.”Blaine shakes his head and grabs for his backpack. “You’re not the worst, but this is cutting it close.”Kurt picks Libby up from her playtime mat and holds her close, bopping to an unknown beat. “Anything to report?”Blaine shakes his head again. “A woman in the grocery store congratulated me on being a good dad.” Kurt keeps up his rocking, snorts, and asks what he was doing. Blaine shrugs, looking around for his house keys, and replies distractedly, “I was just wearing her, with the Baby Bjorn, that’s about it. Uh.” He checks his bag: wallet, Kindle, phone, and now his keys. “She had her nap, but it was only an hour. She’s ready for dinner, probably at the usual time?” He leans in and kisses her sweet cheeks. “Goodbye, Libbalicious. Daddy will see you tomorrow morning. I love you.”He’s running out the door when he hears, “Hello?”He doubles back and rolls his eyes – to kiss his husband’s cheeks, to tell him he’ll see him around midnight, and that he loves him. With that, the handoff is complete and he’s running for the subway.[PS - I stole the woman / grocery store / “good dad” bit right from Michael Chabon’s Manhood for AmateursPPS - The baby’s full name is Elizabeth Amelita Hummel-AndersonPPPS - I rewrote this more times than I’d care to say] -- source link
