I can’t stop thinking about what Scrooge and Beakley were both going through at this time in their lives. These two ^ may not have been Webby’s parents, but the woman looks so much like Beakley there’s no doubt in my mind she was Beakley’s daughter, and she was engaged or married to this man (it’s hard to see in this screencap, but she does have an engagement or wedding ring on her left hand). I’d hoped that alliterative-albatross’ theory about Webby being a F.O.W.L. creation was true for over two years, and I still always believed Beakley had a daughter at some point. That would make the lie that Webby was her granddaughter all the more believable to Scrooge, who’d known her since the ‘60s. And if Beakley had a daughter and son-in-law, I don’t think she’d have had to make any of this up (aside from the part about Webby being their daughter). It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Beakley, on the brink of success in taking out F.O.W.L., did miss important things in her daughter and son-in-law’s lives. And maybe her grief over their deaths fueled her anger and motivated her to try even harder to take out F.O.W.L. Maybe F.O.W.L. was even responsible for their deaths. If Bradford orchestrated Della’s disappearance to ruin Scrooge McDuck, I wouldn’t put it past him to orchestrate the deaths S.H.U.S.H. Director 22′s daughter and son-in-law to ruin her.So here these two are.Scrooge had recently lost Della, the closest thing to a daughter he’d known at that point. And Beakley, his friend and most trusted ally, shows up on his doorstep, having also recently lost her daughter. They’d both lost their baby girls within the previous few months. So is it any wonder they both melted at the first sight of baby Webbigail? We don’t know what the following days, weeks, months, or years were like exactly, beyond Scrooge grumbling a lot and not spending a lot of time with Webby. Maybe there was an instant paternal affection there, but she reminded him too much of Della, and that hurt. Even so, I think Scrooge and Beakley were exactly what each other needed in so many ways. Whether they talked about their losses or not, there was an unspoken understanding between them. I think just knowing the other understood their grief probably helped more than they could ever hope to explain. -- source link
