nerdshitwiththisbtch:lady-pei:once again, it’s the small, almost incidental details that make this panel especially meaningful to me.When Jack first enters the apartment, he’s only half paying attention. Maybe he’s thinking about how practice went that day, or if Bitty would want to go to that new café around the corner for dinner. He passes the kitchen, calling out for his boyfriend when he doesn’t immediately hear where he might be, and sees the abandoned pie on the countertop. Sees its crooked lattice, the haphazard blueberry stains on the crust. His first, immediate thought is: Bitty never leaves a pie unfinished. His second, almost in tandem: something is wrong. In the second panel, we see that both Jack’s hat and bag are gone. Perhaps he dropped them the second he saw that unfinished pie, shedding every piece of unnecessary weight that was keeping him from reaching Bitty as quickly as possible. He darts through his apartment, too quiet, too still, but then stops just as abruptly outside their bedroom door. Listens. Pushes open the door as gently as he can manage. When he sees Bitty, curled up on his side of the bed, trembling with near-silent sobs, Jack doesn’t even think. He toes off his shoes, crawls over to where Bitty is now visibly trying to quell his tears, the bed dipping with their combined weight. He lays his hand on Bitty’s back. Calls his name. At once, the tension in Bitty’s body washes out, like a cresting wave finally hitting shore. He curls into Jack’s chest, his sobs renewed, and Jack clutches back so no part of Bitty is left untethered. He strokes a hand through his hair, murmurs words of love. Holds on. okay I’ve been rereading omgcp and this raised an interesting parallel to a scene that Ive been tihnking about for 48 hours now.I can’t really verbalize but like something something not just looking for someone and wanting to find them and comfort them but actually seeing them, seeing the signs that they are stuggling. ngozi could have just had the panel of bitty opening the door and seeing jack but she chose to have him spot jack’s jersey first, to notice what was invisible to others. anyway I love them -- source link
