thoughtfulfilm:Fanchon The Cricket (1915)Just saw my first Mary Pickford silent: a restored version of Fanchon the Cricket (1915), on Kanopy. It’s pretty pantomime-esque, and the plot leaves a lot to be desired, but you can’t help liking Pickford, even if she plays pretty hard into the cutesy trope. You can see she’s having fun with Fanchon. Kanopy currently have Paul Robeson’s The Emperor Jones, Lillian Gish’s Broken Blossoms, and Doris Ashwin’s The Moth of Moonbi which I am going to check out. There’s also a selection of other silent classics such as Chaplin’s A Dog’s Life, The Kid, and more. -- source link
