It’s not really about equality, it’s about paying men back for all the supposed grievances women have suffered at the hands of the “patriarchy”. Social revenge workers You… do realize it’s trying to point out the wage gap between men and women, right? Women make 75 cents to the dollar that men make. And that’s just WHITE women. POC women make even less. So, yes, it is for equality. So that when men see that price difference, they go “Hey, that’s not equal, that sucks” and women can say “YES, LET ME TELL YOU A THING”-discussion begins- ^^^^^ THIS Well First off, they messed up on really bad on the percentage. http://www.nber.org/papers/w11240.pdf This is a paper, that measures based on total compensation. When Averaged out the gap Shrinks astoundingly to 96.4% being the Average wage women have compared to men http://thechoice.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/06/01/valedictorians/ More than that this article states that Women choose Jobs that more fit them beyond just what is a good job, and more a Job that works for their family in unison with their Career. Men didn’t. The article implies men are idiots who are in it for the money more than family. Not that they inherently are given more than women, They Focus more than women on getting more money, and therefore do get more money. (3.6% more to be correct) This is where the conversation verges into ad hominem because I disagree with the Majorities opinion on this matter at which point I laugh and say, the most money or career oriented women go into big city http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/03/nyregion/03women.html?ex=1343793600&en=8941c5442f49a9a4&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&_r=0 Where they get paid more than men. tata. i will give the percentage is a bit off, but they may be comparing overall earnings by all women to overall earnings by all men. in a comparable job with similar qualifications in 2012 women make 80.9% less than men (falling from 82.2% in 2011, http://www.iwpr.org/initiatives/pay-equity-and-discrimination) choosing a job that ‘fits’ you usually implies finding that fits around one’s life, and since most females are the caregivers and housekeepers in their families (whether they like it or not) they HAVE to make this choice, and try to find a job that will allow them to take care of their other socially required responsibilities. most of the time when getting a job, these considerations will not enter a man’s mind the same way a woman considers them. she knows that if she doesnt make the time to do the childrearing and housekeeping, no one else is likely to pick up the slack. not to mention, all your sources are over 5 years old and thus not applicable to something that can be subject to rapid change due to the number of studies performed on it. ALSO the last article you are citing was BEFORE the recession. ALSO when i googled all this information, (googled ‘wage gap percentage,’ neutral statement) this is the stuff that came up on the first page (among other things in support of an existing pay gap because of gender) http://www.aauw.org/research/the-simple-truth-about-the-gender-pay-gap/ http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/24/upshot/the-pay-gap-is-because-of-gender-not-jobs.html?_r=0&abt=0002&abg=0 http://www.iwpr.org/initiatives/pay-equity-and-discrimination which means you either specifically googled ‘women make more than men’ ‘there is no wage gap’ or had to dig for quite a while to find your ‘sources’ supporting your argument. Now, GET OUTTA MAH FACE WITH YOUR WEAK ASS ARGUMENT. Making alot of assumptions as to where I found my resources now didn’t you? I google “Wage gap between men and women” And got the goddamn wikipedia page. On another note, the first of those three sources you gave me returned a Page Not Found error. The second has this quote in it “The gender gap in pay would be considerably reduced and might vanish altogether if firms did not have an incentive to disproportionately reward individuals who labored long hours and worked particular hours,” Which directly applies to what I said about the desire for money and career over family that male graduate students have. The third one didn’t cite sources. it cited itself, over and over again. That seems oddly suspicious considering how even after digging out the External Resources, they cite themselves for the lack of Pay Inequality and Discrimination instead of actually citing sources independent of them. Over all of this, every one of your arguments before you cite sources agree with me. The overarching fact is Men care less about family and more about career, therefore they are more successful in career, but are less successful at Family. When Women care more about career, they succeed in Career more than men. The argument not only was durable, You used the argument to disagree with me, but ended with both sides of this debate being correct. The only distinguishing difference is that I believe a source that insists upon itself lacks credibility. -- source link
