PFW, Olympia Le-Tan SS16: This show was if a Japanese girl from 1,000 years ago met a Japanese girl 1,000 years in the future, or if My Melody met Beatrix from Kill Bill and then went on a road trip across Europe. Le-Tan presented a perfect blend of modern and tradition; a line of clothes that can be interpreted as a rendition, rather than a costume. Along with the endearing pink and red square clutches, the models are accompanied by minute Sanrio details in the accessories, another modern twist to the traditional backbone. Using Japanese culture as an inspiration can be risky, since it may lead to appropriation. However, Olympia Le-Tan’s overall collection was an ode and a reintroduction to the geometry played in Japanese fashion but still true to her French flare. Collage by Abby Phillips -- source link
