GRL Power in Photography: Interview with Lauren Tepfer In the first part of our interview serie
GRL Power in Photography: Interview with Lauren Tepfer In the first part of our interview series, Madison Neumann talks to up and coming photographer, Lauren Tepfer (16), about her inspirations and her art… 1. When did you start photography?I think I began to take photos at 7 or 8 years old with my own camera. I became super serious about photography when I was about 13!2. Your pictures can be described as very dreamy and feminine, how do you interpret your vision? Are there any messages you try to portray? I approach each of my photos with the idea that I am going to (almost) create some kind of alternate universe. That’s why I love to take photos of the sky, especially because it can produce such a dream like feeling that I really, really enjoy. I think the main message that I am trying to portray in my photos is to be aware of your everyday surroundings while being able to appreciate them!3. You were recently in an all teen art show in NYC, what was that experience like?It was an absolute dream! I am so, so grateful to have had the opportunity to show my photos along with so many other fantastic teenage artists in an amazing city! Living in New York is my ultimate goal, so being able to spend the weekend there with a bunch of people who have similar interests as me was absolutely unreal! Teen Art Salon is a wonderful organization and I’m so incredibly lucky to be able to collaborate with them. 4. Do you plan to continue photography in the future?Yes! I’m not exactly sure what I want to major in at school, but it will definitely be something along the lines of photography. I am also very interested in cinematography, so that’s an option as well! 5. Do you have any fellow female photographers that inspire you? Some female photographers that inspire me are definitely Petra Collins, Olivia Bee, and Milly Cope!6. Do you have any advice for photographers who are just starting? My advice for photographers who are just starting out would be to shoot, shoot shoot! Take photos of anything you find interesting or anything that you think tells a story. Don’t be afraid of rejection and put yourself out there!
