A papercraft sky serpent, designed by Noam Kahalany, made and adapted by me. It’s a coiled snake - with a slight cobra hood, though it wasn’t so obvious on my build - with little pteranodon-like wings. The base is card with brushed brass covering it; the eyes are little garnet beads; the wings are bent brass tube with gold leather hanging off them. This is an (extremely belated) birthday gift for my friend T, based on her love of snakes, and our mutual unabashed appreciation for ‘sky serpents’, a meme of some infamy in our RPG/nerd circles. Essentially, it’s a flying snake - as sea serpents are to the oceans and to Loch Ness, this is to the air - and adorable precious baby sky serpents (and insistence on playing them) have appeared with distressing regularity in LARPs, tabletop campaigns, etc. since. I’m not quite sure why they’re so popular (other than their adorable tendency to wind up certain mutual friends); I think it’s a combination of the way snakes (especially young snakes) are actually really cute (boopable noses, questing heads, big eyes), and the fact that they wind around and drape themselves from things affectionately? This one - being more metal/sculptural - can’t drape, but is still very lovely and has a big goofy grin! -- source link
