In its first eight months, the Committee raised roughly $1.626 million and paid out $1.487 million. In the same period, the Welfare Council spent more than $12 million for relief and emergency work wages, all raised through voluntary contributions. Despite Mayor Walker’s ties to Tammany Hall, all these funds were accounted for.
