defunctfashion:Wedding Gown | c. 1868 • • • By the mid 1860s weddings had gone from small intimate family gatherings to large and extravagant ceremonies that included extended relations and friends. Because so many people would see the bride on her wedding day, most wealthy brides-to-be had white dresses made specifically for their wedding day. Before this a bride would wear her best dress or have a dress made that she would be able to wear for formal occasions after her wedding in her new life. There are many well preserved wedding gowns made after the 1860s in existence because they were worn once, then packed away and never worn again. • • • #weddingdress #weddjng #victorian #victorianfashion #historicalfashion #fashion #fashiondesign #fashionhistory #historyoffashion #vintagefashion #vintage #defunctfashion #couture @cincyartmuseum https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo-UatblW1t/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1wb3jhlzclkae -- source link
